If you are looking to catch a concert or show, look no further than The Lyric Theatre. The Lyric is one of Stuart, Florida’s crowning jewels. It provides the community with a 500-seat showplace hosting many local, regional, and national artists. It also is an intimate backdrop for locals to step into the limelight at the Lyric Theatre. If you need a place to hold your next event, the theatre is available for fundraisers, meetings, seminars & workshops.
The Lyric Theatre built in 1925 as a silent movie house had a small stage for Vaudeville acts. It was so popular in the community that they actually had to turn folks away. I stopped by the Stuart Heritage Museum and the folks there were helpful in showing me some old pictures. As a result, I was able to include these two great photos. The museum has a great collection of Stuart memorabilia.
Over the years it has been a movie theatre, a church, and is now a theatre drawing many national artists. The Lyric Theatre is on the National Register of Historic Places. Even though folks come downtown for many reasons, the Lyric is clearly the main draw for downtown Stuart. The refurbishing ignited the upgrade of the entire historic downtown Stuart area to what it is today.
Newly Renovated
Thanks to an anonymous gift of $500,000 donated to jumpstart the project. The Lyric has a new roof, new carpet, restored marquees, and the air conditioner is upgraded. It is absolutely beautiful inside.
If you visit Stuart when a show at The Lyric Theatre is scheduled, you will find it is an excellent place to watch a live performance. Every seat is a good seat unlike huge arenas. You are able to see a concert the way they are meant to be seen. Up close and personal. In fact, an evening performance at the Lyric is a great ingredient for a Perfect Three Day Weekend in Stuart.
Don’t Forget a Before or After Show Snack
Make it a special evening and couple it up with dinner from any of Stuart’s fine dining establishments. Order a slice of pizza from Luna’s next door. Countless famous names have grabbed a slice or two before their performance.
Showtime
After dinner, it’s SHOWTIME! Within the last ten years, National Acts such as Journey, The Little River Band, Renee Fleming, Clint Black, Ana Popovic, Branford Marsalis, The Outlaws, Spyro Gyra, Roger McGuinn, Arlo Guthrie, Pure Prairie League and Bruce Hornsby have all had dates at The Lyric. This are just a small sampling. There have been many, many more. You can check the calendar of events for upcoming shows.
Community Events
In addition to national and international talent, the Lyric is home to many community events as well. I was fortunate to be on the committee for the Martin Arts Awards this year. The awards honor artists, philanthropists, volunteers, and leaders who inspire a passion for the arts within the Martin County Community! My students and I in the past have been involved with Healthy Start’s Dancing with the Martin Stars. Two great local events!

The Lyric comes with lights, microphones, and a technical crew to make your show a success. And speaking of past students, Nick was kind enough to take me up to show me the lighting and audio consoles.
